You seem to be a "glass half-empty" kind of guy. It would be interesting to get your take on what is good about Anglo-American culture (or even whether you can detect anything at all that is good). One thing might be, for example, that you are free to write your jeremiads with no fear of government reprisal and indeed with the expectation of tolerance and (from some) approbation.

I do see the evils you describe, but I see also good things that you omit (as irrelevant to your theme — I understand). But occasionally a celebratory column would be an interesting change of pace, and perhaps now, at the vernal equinox, would be a good time.
