One surprise for me when I switched to a whole-food plant-based diet was how filling it was. I had to cut back on the amount of food I prepared. I had assumed that fat and protein are more satiating than carbohydrates because they are more slowly digested, but of course dietary fiber, a carbohydrate, is not digested at all but serves as a prebiotic to nourish one’s gut microbiome — and whole plant-based foods (as opposed to refined plant-based foods — have a lot of fiber.

Moreover, whole plant-based foods have relatively low calorie density, particularly compared to meat, cheese, and foods that are CRAP (calorie-rich and processed). Ultraprocessed foods cause weight gain.

Protein is not a problem: if you get enough calories with whole plant-based foods, you get enough protein. See this brief video.

Good article. Thanks.
