Oh, my response is from simple ignorance, to be sure. I hesitate to call the searches I did “research,” and I included the links so that people could see the source of the figures I used and correct me if I were wrong, which you have helpfully done. I appreciate the link and explanation you provided, which are illuminating. (I do wish, however, that you would attempt at least a modicum of courtesy. Veiled insults seem out of place in working together to find the truth.)

I will note that saying that 300,000 is “more people than died during World War II” is (at least for me) not at all the same as saying 300,000 is “more than the number of battle deaths among US forces in World War II” (including the link). The latter is clear and helpful to the reader; the former is incorrect — grossly incorrect since it quite clearly states it is the total number of deaths on Earth during the period 1941–45 (including just the years the US participated in the conflict).

I see no reason why statements in an argument should not be accurate and include support if necessary (which is why I included the links I did).

Your hostility is puzzling.
