Interesting article, and also interesting is how the system incentives precludes serious (and likely life-saving) research into dietary intervention. Not long ago I read How Not to Die, by Michael Greger MD. Part 1 describes how diet relates to various chronic diseases, including several kinds of cancer, and Part 2 sets out a diet along with the research-based reasons for the recommendations. It is a whole-food plant-based diet, and after I had been following the diet for 10 weeks I had a checkup. My doctor told me to discontinue all my medications (type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol) because I no longer needed them.
That was 7 months ago, and he was right. My blood-test results since have been excellent, and my blood pressure (taken by the doctor at my last checkup) was 115 over 71. Without medication.
Greger’s most recent book is How Not to Diet, and I think you would find both books of interest. In that book he explains that doctors refusing to offer good dietary advice is not a conspiracy of silence but simply the result of the incentives in the system.
