And it's not just coding — the key to many things seems to be consistency. I do Nordic walking and for quite a while I would focus on speed and/or duration — I wanted to walk rapidly for a long distance.

I occasionally succeeded, but real success came when I focused solely on one thing: walk some every day. (I do skip one day a week, though — but other than that, every day.)

I found that once I was walking daily, speed and duration took care of themselves. Walking daily made me more fit and thus the walk was more enjoyable. (I had added Nordic walking poles specifically to increase enjoyment: if the activity is enjoyable, I don’t have to push myself to do it.)

As the walk became more enjoyable, I just naturally walked more briskly and for longer.
